Yet another reason for me, a constant pedestrian, to treat walking as a dangerous activity.

The Google cars have been accident free - except once and that was caused by a human in another vehicle.

We would all be better off with robot drivers. The death and injury toll from auto accidents is insane - it's like a Vietnam war level rate of casualties every year.

Can't wait for this. It's like having a chauffeur. You can read or sleep, etc.
Awesome!
Still , I'll wait for version 2.0 before taking the plunge :-)

If this works, and I think it will, this will make Google much more money than their cell phone operating system or their online ad business.

This is literally a game changer.

Sorry. I used to be a computer programmer so between "Eh. As soon as the clients sign off on this project I'll be gone.", management's "I don't care if it's good it has to be done by Tuesday!" and the hackers who are undoubtedly giddy with joy about the fun they will have creating viruses and malware for these vehicles I'm not looking forward to this.

I suspect this is going to be like designing modern weapons. You can test but you won't find out if it really works until you get it into combat, and even then it will be "Oops. Hadn't thought of that."

Why would a self contained system like this catch a virus? Airplane avionics kind of work like this and no airplane virus that I have heard off for that software......

We desperately need this in Lubbock before the city's notoriously aggressive yahoo drivers make the place uninhabitable.
